  • Title of International Master Awarded in 1995

  • Australian Champion 1994 at the age of 17 - the youngest ever
  • Australian Champion again in 2003
  • Represented Australia in two Chess Olympics, Moscow 94 and Yerevan 96

 

John-Paul has won dozens of tournaments in his native Australia. He first represented his country in the World Under 12's in Romania in 1987, and since then represtented Australia in the World Under 14's, 16's (twice), World Under 20's and the Asian Under 16's

 

  • John-Paul has developed two of his students into national chess champions

  • 14 years coaching experience

  • John-Paul was awarded a high distinction in the intro to Sports Psychology course at the University of Western Sydney
  • John-Paul teaches chess at South Bank International, Arnold House, Naima JPS and Rydes Hill school. He also lectures at Barnet Knights chess club.
  • John-Paul speaks Norwegian and Swedish, and has lived and worked in both countries

  • John-Paul is the resident games columnist for the Australian Chess Magazine (8 years running)

 

  • John-Paul has written chess articles for the following magazines: King Pin (UK), New in Chess (Holland), Informator (Serbia), Tidskrift før Schack and Schacknytt (Sweden), Norsk Sjakkblad (Norway) Torre and Cavallo (Italy), Chess Life (USA), Sach Info (Czechia) and the major Australian newspaper The Sydney Morning Herald.
